Last month it was reported that Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder, Percy Jackson) was in negotiations to play the lead in CBS’ planned reboot of the 1984 Eddie Murphy comedy Beverly Hills Cop.

Deadline confirms that Jackson has indeed signed on to play Aaron Foley, son to Murphy’s Axel Foley, in what is being designed as a sequel to the film trilogy. Murphy is set to executive produce along with The Shield creator Shawn Ryan for Sony TV. Ryan is currently finalizing the script which will follow Jackson’s Aaron Foley as he attempts create a name for himself at the Beverly Hills police department and distinguish himself from his father Axel’s (now the Chief of Police in Detroit) legacy.

Murphy, who will reprise his role for the pilot and may recur, is reportedly a fan of Jackson’s stand-up and suggested him to the network.
