Valve Working on New Game Engine

♦ by Unknown Monday 12 November 2012

Valve president Gabe Newell has confirmed that the company is busy working on a next-generation game engine – more than likely Source 2.

We've long suspected that the company behind Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead was busy working on a new engine but Newell has now confirmed the rumours himself.

Speaking in front of an audience of 4chan's user who were visiting Valve to celebrate Newell's birthday, he not only confirms the news but also reveals that "we're probably just waiting for a game to roll it out with."

Newell also confirms that it is an entirely new engine, not just another update to the existing engine.

Unlike other engines, Source has been regularly updated over the years. It made it's debut with Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2 back in 2004. What could that new game be? Let me think...
